On December 23, 2024, the Royal Gazette published regulations issued by the Chief Traffic Officer of Bangkok regarding speed limits and noise restrictions within Bangkok Metropolitan Area, B.E. 2567 (2024).

These regulations are issued due to the efforts of the Metropolitan Police Bureau to promote traffic discipline and reduce road accidents in community areas and near significant government locations. Thus, it is necessary to enact these rules to ensure safety and traffic convenience.

Under Section 4 (38) and Section 139 (6) (20) of the Land Traffic Act, B.E. 2522 (1979), which is a law containing certain provisions restricting individual rights and freedoms under Section 26, together with Section 38 of the Constitution of the Kingdom of Thailand, B.E. 2560 (2017), it permits the issuance of regulations under laws enacted for national security and public order.

Additionally, by the order of the Royal Thai Police No. 22/2566, dated January 25, 2023, appointing the Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police or an authorized delegate as the Chief Traffic Officer of Bangkok, the following regulations are issued:

Article 1

This regulation shall be referred to as “Regulations of the Chief Traffic Officer of Bangkok on Speed Limits and Noise Prohibition within Bangkok Metropolitan Area, B.E. 2567 (2024).”

Article 2

This regulation shall take effect from the day following its publication in the Royal Gazette.

Article 3

Speed limits and noise prohibitions around royal premises are as follows:

  • Speed limit: Not exceeding 50 kilometers per hour.
  • Noise prohibition applies to the following roads:
    • Ratchadamnoen Nai Road
    • Na Phra That Road
    • Phra Chan Road
    • Na Phra Lan Road
    • Sanam Chai Road
    • Kalayanamitr Road
    • Tai Wang Road
    • Maharaj Road
    • Rachinee Road
    • Setthakan Road

Article 4

Speed limits in general Bangkok areas:

  • Speed limit: Not exceeding 60 kilometers per hour for all roads within Bangkok, except for the following roads:
    • Vibhavadi Rangsit Road
    • Bang Na-Trat Road
    • Srinakarin Road
    • Phahonyothin Road
    • Ram Inthra Road
    • Ratchaphruek Road
    • Borommaratchachonnani Road
    • Kalpapruek Road
    • Romklao Road
    • Suwinthawong Road
    • Chaeng Watthana Road
    • Rama III Road
    • Srinakarin-Romklao (New Road)

Article 5

This regulation does not apply to vehicles with speed limits set by ministerial regulations at 45 kilometers per hour or below.

Article 6

All existing regulations, announcements, or orders that conflict with this regulation are repealed and replaced by this regulation, except for the following:

  1. The 2018 regulations on vehicle speed limits in Bangkok.
  2. The 2021 regulations on speed limits and noise prohibitions around royal premises (901 Land).
