People’s Party Confirms Natthaphong Ruengpanyawut as Leader, Elects Pijarn Chaowapatanawong as New Secretary-General

The People’s Party has resolved to retain Natthaphong Ruengpanyawut as party leader, while Pijarn Chaowapatanawong has been elected as the new secretary-general, replacing Sarayut Jailak, who resigned earlier.

At the 2026 annual general meeting held on April 26, party executives attended in full. The meeting also appointed Chutima Kachaphan as party treasurer, Nattawut Ruangpratum as registrar of party members, and Sutthawan Subban Na Ayutthaya as a member of the executive committee.

Before the meeting began, Natthaphong outlined the party’s key direction, highlighting “3 clarity points” and “4 milestones” to guide future operations.

The 3 clarity points are:

  • The party’s 10 MPs affected by a Supreme Court order will continue performing their duties
  • The party will move forward with both national policy work and constituency-based political engagement
  • The party will challenge political structures lacking transparency, such as patronage systems, independent organizations, and the bureaucracy

Natthaphong emphasized that all party communications must clearly point out that a “monopolizing system” is a major obstacle facing the country today.

Regarding its direction, the party will act as a constructive opposition and plans to soon launch a “shadow cabinet.” It will also push forward its agenda through parliamentary committees, particularly the nine committees chaired by its MPs.

Additionally, the party aims to expand its grassroots operations in preparation for upcoming elections. It plans to accelerate candidate selection to allow more time for local engagement and policy communication with the public. The party will also adopt the “Lamphun Model” as a strategy for local elections, including the Bangkok gubernatorial and council elections, with a goal of fielding candidates in every district to offer Bangkok residents more choices.
