Deputy Bangkok Governor Chatree Watthanaketchorn announced that the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has collaborated with district offices to manage waste at the 2024 Red Cross Fair under the themes "No Mixed Waste" and "Green Event." Attendees, vendors, and agencies were encouraged to separate waste into designated bins placed across 40 collection points at Lumpini Park. The bins were categorized for recyclables, organic waste, and general waste, with additional separation for items such as ice, straws, chopsticks, skewers, and clear plastic bottles.

BMA staff from 25 districts worked in rotation to ensure proper waste collection, cleaning, and area maintenance for the following day’s visitors. Sorted waste was processed accordingly:

  • Organic waste was repurposed for animal feed, compost, or other agricultural uses.
  • Recyclables were sold, with proceeds donated to the Thai Red Cross Society.
  • General waste was disposed of hygienically.

From December 11 to December 17, the event generated 182 tons of waste, categorized as follows:

  • General waste: 168,533 kg (92.6%)
  • Recyclables: 1,998.6 kg (1.1%)
  • Organic waste: 11,476.2 kg (6.31%)

The initiative underscores BMA’s commitment to sustainable event practices and effective waste management.
