On December 24, at IMPACT Forum in Muang Thong Thani, Mr. Sawang Boonmee, Secretary-General of the Election Commission (EC), addressed allegations involving a leaked audio clip discussing a 20-million-baht fund intended for elections in Prachinburi Province. He confirmed that the EC is investigating whether the conversation violates election laws, as even planning such actions is considered illegal.
Mr. Sawang emphasized the need for factual verification before making judgments but acknowledged that preliminary reports link the clip to election activities. The investigation will scrutinize the names mentioned in the conversation, albeit some are only initials, to determine whether actions followed the discussions in the clip.
The EC is closely monitoring the situation in Prachinburi, a high-interest area during the election period. Mr. Sawang reassured the public that the EC is committed to ensuring a democratic and fair election atmosphere, free from undue tension or distrust. While additional security personnel are not yet requested, he stated that coordination with authorities will occur if needed.
