On December 13, Sawang Boonmee, Secretary-General of the Election Commission (EC), addressed concerns surrounding the recent fatal shooting of Chaimet Sittisanitphong, also known as "Sor Jor Tong" at the residence of Prachinburi Provincial Administrative Organization President Sunthorn Wilawan. Sawang suggested that the incident was likely related to local political and personal disputes, asserting it would not affect the administration or fairness of the upcoming elections.
While acknowledging public concerns, Sawang emphasized that the incident would not deter voters or disrupt preparations for the February 1, 2025, elections. The EC aims to maximize voter turnout nationwide, including in Prachinburi, where the incident occurred.
Law enforcement authorities are addressing the violence, ensuring election integrity remains the EC’s focus. The local EC office in Prachinburi continues to monitor the situation closely.
