The story of Chinese actor Wang Xing’s abduction and forced involvement in a call center scam in Myanmar was reported by Facebook page "The Reporters". Wang was rescued within 24 hours after his girlfriend, Jia Jia, raised alarm on social media. Thai and Chinese media picked up the case, leading to swift action. Wang had gone missing for four days after being lured to Thailand by scammers posing as a legitimate entertainment company.

Wang was deceived into believing he was traveling to Thailand for an acting job with a daily salary of 12,000 baht. After several conversations with the recruiters on WeChat and submitting an audition video, he flew to Thailand on January 3, 2025. Upon arrival, he was transported from Suvarnabhumi Airport to Mae Sot, a border town in Thailand, and then trafficked into Myanmar. Scammers shaved his head, trained him to type quickly, and planned to force him to commit online fraud.

The Thai police were able to trace his movements using phone records and transport details. The incident highlights the ongoing challenges in securing Thailand's border with Myanmar, particularly at Mae Sot, where natural crossing points are exploited by transnational criminal networks. Critics are urging Thai authorities to address this issue more decisively to prevent further misuse of the country as a transit point for such crimes.

This case has raised questions globally about Thailand’s accountability in protecting foreign nationals and preventing its territory from being used for cross-border crimes. Myanmar’s instability has also been a key factor, as it creates a haven for criminal operations targeting victims across Asia.

Wang Xing expressed gratitude for his rescue while vowing to raise awareness to protect others from becoming victims of similar scams. He stated that upon returning to China, he plans to publicize his experience to prevent others from being duped like him.
