On January 7, Chinese actor Xing Xing, who had been missing since January 3, was safely returned to Thailand and arrived at Don Mueang Air Base at 7:00 p.m. following his rescue from Myanmar.

Details of the Incident

Authorities revealed that Xing Xing was lured into traveling to Thailand under the pretense of a work opportunity arranged via the WeChat messaging app. The contact claimed to represent a prominent Thai entertainment company, which led Xing Xing to believe in the job's legitimacy.

Upon arriving at Suvarnabhumi Airport, he was picked up and driven to Mae Sot, Tak Province. There, a gray Toyota Hilux Revo, operated by individuals from a local ethnic group, transported him across the border via an informal river crossing for 2,000 THB.

Xing Xing later realized he had been deceived but refrained from resisting due to fear. He disclosed that payments for the transportation were transferred from a neighboring country.

Rescue Effort and Investigations

Thai police, led by National Police Inspector General Pol. Gen. Tatchai Pitaneelaboot and under the direction of Tak Provincial Police Commander Pol. Maj. Gen. Samrit Aemkamon, coordinated with Myanmar authorities to locate and retrieve Xing Xing. He was safely returned to Thailand and questioned at the Tak Immigration Checkpoint before being flown to Bangkok.

Investigations revealed that the Grab driver who transported Xing Xing to Makro Mae Sot was unaware of any illegal activities and claimed the interaction appeared consensual. Authorities are continuing to investigate the role of the individuals and groups involved in the deception.

Next Steps

Xing Xing’s case will undergo further investigation to determine whether he was a victim of human trafficking or fraud. Authorities will also verify the involvement of any individuals or groups who facilitated the cross-border movements.

This incident highlights the importance of verifying the legitimacy of international work opportunities, especially in regions prone to trafficking and fraud.
