On January 7, at the Tak Immigration Checkpoint, Thai authorities received Chinese actor Xing Xing, who had been missing since January 3 after disappearing from Mae Sot District, Tak Province. His rescue was coordinated by Mae Sot Police, under the direction of Pol. Maj. Gen. Samrit Aemkamon, Provincial Police Commander of Tak. Xing Xing was retrieved from a Karen-controlled area in Myanmar opposite Ban Mae Gone Gane, Mahawan Subdistrict, and brought back to Thailand for questioning.

Details of the Incident

Preliminary investigations revealed that Xing Xing knowingly accepted a job offer from Shanghai, China, but was unaware of the destination country. Upon arriving in Mae Sot, he reportedly hired a Grab driver for 5,000 THB to take him to Makro Mae Sot. From there, a gray Toyota Hilux Revo pickup truck, operated by a local ethnic group, transported him through an informal border crossing for an additional 2,000 THB. The funds for this transportation were reportedly transferred from across the border.

The Grab driver, during questioning, confirmed that Xing Xing willingly traveled with the ethnic group, showing no signs of coercion.

Next Steps

National Police Inspector General Pol. Gen. Tatchai Pitaneelaboot confirmed that Xing Xing is now safe in Thailand. Authorities are conducting detailed interviews to determine:

  1. Whether Xing Xing was a victim of human trafficking, which would entitle him to protection under Thai law.
  2. Whether he was complicit in any illicit activities, in which case legal action may be taken.

The case will also be discussed in the Thai-Myanmar Local Border Committee (MRM) meeting to address cross-border safety and human trafficking concerns.

Clarification on GMM Grammy's Alleged Involvement

Authorities reiterated that GMM Grammy’s name was falsely used in connection to the incident. The company has denied any involvement in recruiting Xing Xing.

Return to Bangkok

Following the interrogation, Xing Xing will be escorted back to Bangkok for further processing.
