On December 26, Theeraphan Phumirattanaprapin, Director of Highway District 2 in Nakhon Ratchasima, led preparations for Motorway M6 (Bang Pa-in-Nakhon Ratchasima), particularly the 80 km section between Pak Chong and suburban Nakhon Ratchasima. Measures included setting up screening checkpoints, cleaning facilities, inspecting lighting and CCTV systems, and placing barriers and traffic cones at toll plazas in Pak Chong, Si Khiu, Sung Noen, and Kham Thale So. The effort aims to enhance safety and convenience for travelers during the 2024 New Year holiday.

The one-year trial of the M6 motorway has reduced traffic on Highway 2 (Mittraphap Road) by 40%, equivalent to 20,000 vehicles daily, especially during holidays. However, issues persist with prohibited vehicles, such as motorcycles and large trucks, using the route, often citing GPS errors or fuel shortages. M6 remains restricted to 4-wheeled vehicles with a speed limit of 80 km/h.

To further ease traffic on Highway 2, various measures are in place, including road signs, flashlights, and barriers blocking 20 permanent points. If congestion persists, temporary counterflow lanes will be opened at four key sections:

  1. Km 35-54, from Muak Lek Bridge in Saraburi to Chokchai Farm in Pak Chong.
  2. Km 103, near Si Khiu interchange.
  3. Bypass from Pak Thong Chai to Joho, ending at Ban Nong Kradangnga in Ban Pho.
  4. Km 204-208, from Talad Khae intersection to Ban Non Sai in Non Sung.
