At approximately 5:00 AM on June 20, an explosion occurred on Suan Somdet Road, opposite Pattani Provincial Stadium, in Rusamilae Subdistrict, Mueang District, Pattani Province. Police radio center in Mueang Pattani reported a single loud explosion, followed by a second blast around 5:30 AM in a nearby area.
Preliminary investigations revealed the blast caused one electric pole to fall and scattered shrapnel throughout the vicinity. Seven people were injured:
- Mr. Salehi – injured in the hip
- Mr. Usa – injured in the left leg
- Mrs. Somsri – suffered a hand injury with bone deformity
- Ms. Yupa – sustained a minor injury to her left leg
- Mr. Weerachai – injured near the lip
- Pol. Sgt. Det. Atthawut (Pattani Provincial Police) – experienced chest tightness
- Pol. Sgt. Sahaphap – also experienced chest tightness
Authorities have cordoned off the area for safety and are awaiting bomb disposal (EOD) and forensic teams to conduct a detailed investigation. The extent of property damage is still being assessed.
While no suspects have been identified yet, authorities suspect the incident involved a secondary device intended to target responders or civilians arriving after the first explosion. Efforts to control the situation are ongoing.
