On December 8, Phasakorn Boonyalak, Director-General of the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM), reported on the severe flooding caused by a new wave of moderate to strong high-pressure weather systems from China. Heavy rainfall since November 22 has triggered flash floods and forest runoff in 10 southern provinces, affecting 87 districts, 538 sub-districts, and 3,729 villages. The disaster has impacted 664,173 households, resulting in 31 fatalities.

Currently, floods remain in three provinces:

  1. Nakhon Si Thammarat
    • Affected areas: 6 districts (Cha-uat, Chaloem Phra Kiat, Mueang, Pak Phanang, Hua Sai, and Chian Yai)
    • Impact: 39 sub-districts, 332 villages, 23,621 households affected, 3 deaths
    • Situation: Water levels in the Tha Di Canal are receding.
  2. Songkhla
    • Affected areas: 3 districts (Ranot, Krasae Sin, and Sathing Phra)
    • Impact: 14 sub-districts, 83 villages, 6,111 households affected, 10 deaths
    • Situation: Water levels in the Songkhla Lake basin are declining.
  3. Pattani
    • Affected areas: 2 districts (Nong Chik and Mueang)
    • Impact: 5 sub-districts, 6 villages, 1,260 households affected, 7 deaths
    • Situation: Water levels in the Pattani River are receding.

The DDPM has deployed response teams and equipment, including water pumps, long-range pumping vehicles, evacuation vehicles, water purification units, flood relief vehicles, flat-bottom boats with engines, and KA-32 disaster response helicopters. The Guardian Team has also been dispatched to provide ongoing relief and assist affected communities.
