On January 1, 2025, Veerish Amrapal, Governor of the State Railway of Thailand (SRT), assured the public that the SRT is fully prepared to accommodate passengers returning to Bangkok after the New Year holiday. While trains on northern, southern, and northeastern lines are experiencing a steady increase in passengers, crowds have not yet reached peak levels. However, a significant rise in passenger volume is expected by evening, as many commuters prepare to resume work on January 2.

To handle the influx, SRT has added five special train services in addition to regular operations:

  • Southern Line:
    • Train 984: Hat Yai Junction to Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal, departing at 7:10 p.m.
  • Northeastern Line:
    • Train 936: Udon Thani to Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal, departing at 9:45 p.m.
    • Train 934: Ubon Ratchathani to Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal, departing at 7:30 p.m.
  • Northern Line:
    • Train 962: Sila At to Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal, departing at 7:50 p.m.
    • Train 6: Chiang Mai to Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal, departing at 7:35 p.m.

The SRT has deployed staff at key points to assist passengers, especially at Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal, where seamless connections to other public transport options are available. Passengers arriving at Gate 3 via buses can easily access BTS Skytrain, taxis (available at Gates 7 and 8), or public buses (available at Gates 4, 5, and 10). These measures aim to provide a convenient and efficient travel experience, ensuring a smooth return to Bangkok.
