On December 31, Deputy Spokesperson for the Prime Minister’s Office, Mr. Karom Polpornklang, issued a warning to the public to remain vigilant against scams during the New Year holiday. He highlighted four primary tactics commonly used by scammers:
- Fake New Year Sticker Downloads: Scammers trick users into downloading holiday-themed stickers through fake links, potentially stealing personal information such as usernames and passwords for fraudulent purposes.
- Charity Donation Scams: Fraudsters appeal to goodwill during the holiday season by soliciting donations for false causes. Individuals are advised to verify the authenticity of campaigns before transferring money.
- Online Event Services Fraud: Scammers deceive vendors by placing fake event orders and then stealing delivered goods or tricking customers into paying for nonexistent catering services.
- Online Gift Shopping Scams: Fraudulent online shops lure buyers with attractive deals, delivering substandard products or no products at all. Consumers should carefully compare prices and verify sellers before purchasing.
Mr. Karom the public to stay cautious by avoiding suspicious links, refraining from sharing personal details, and maintaining a healthy skepticism toward offers that seem too good to be true.
