At 8:00 a.m. on January 1, 2025, a violent altercation broke out at Pattani Central Prison in Bana Subdistrict, Mueang District, Pattani Province, resulting in one fatality and 12 injuries. Police Colonel Jeffrey Sailaemankul, Chief of Pattani Police Station, confirmed the incident, which stemmed from a heated dispute during a futsal match among inmates.

The brawl began during a game organized on December 31, 2024, as part of a recreational program. Tensions escalated into a physical confrontation on New Year’s morning between players and their supporters, leading to the use of improvised weapons, including sharp metal objects.

Emergency responders transported the injured to Pattani Hospital. Among them, one inmate succumbed to stab wounds and multiple bruises, while another remains in critical condition. The remaining injured sustained various injuries, including head wounds and body bruises.

Witnesses reported that some inmates attempted to mediate the conflict but were caught in the violence. Authorities are now investigating to identify the perpetrators and ensure legal action is taken.
