On December 30, Police General Kittirat Phanpetch, the National Police Chief, announced enhanced safety measures for New Year’s Eve countdown events and overnight prayer gatherings nationwide. Authorities aim to ensure public safety, orderly traffic management, and a smooth experience at 64 major venues hosting large-scale celebrations across the country. The measures also include managing crowd density to prevent overcrowding and ensuring the safety of attendees and their belongings.
To achieve these goals, the police have implemented a comprehensive plan. Command centers have been established at event sites to monitor activities in collaboration with local agencies. Police teams will enforce security zones using a grid-based layout, manage entry and exit points, and oversee emergency routes, medical response teams, and rapid-reaction units. Safety protocols include fire prevention, suspicious object detection, and power supply checks. Law enforcement will also regulate the use of fireworks, sound systems, and other potentially hazardous equipment. The public is encouraged to cooperate by reporting suspicious behavior and avoiding overcrowded locations.
Traffic management plans are also in place to ensure smooth access to venues, including designated parking areas, emergency routes, and public transport facilities. Police will guide participants and enforce legal compliance to minimize risks. General Kittirat stressed the importance of maintaining awareness, especially regarding lost children and accidents, and advised the public to explore alternative venues if one becomes too crowded. These measures are part of the Royal Thai Police's commitment to fostering a safe and enjoyable holiday environment.
