Jutathip Kantathong made history as the first Asian to win a gold medal in the women’s singles category at the Teqball World Championships 2024, held in Vietnam on December 7.
In the semifinals, Jutathip, ranked 4th globally and the previous world runner-up, defeated Poland’s Pawlina Lesak, ranked 23rd, with a commanding 2-0 victory (12-2, 12-7).
In the thrilling final, Jutathip showcased exceptional skill and resilience, edging past Brazil's Fontes Gimenez, the reigning world champion and world No. 3. She triumphed in a nail-biting 2-1 set match (10-12, 12-10, 12-9).
This monumental achievement marks a significant milestone for Asian athletes in the sport of teqball, cementing Jutathip’s place in history.
