The Thai League Company has taken disciplinary action against Samut Prakan City following the club’s failure to participate in their scheduled Thai League 2 match against Trat FC on January 4, 2025. The club is facing administrative issues, including the resignation of key management and staff, raising concerns about its ability to continue competing in the second half of the 2024/25 season.
Incident and Penalty
Samut Prakan City did not travel to the designated venue at Trat Provincial Stadium, forcing the cancellation of the match. Following a meeting on January 7, the Disciplinary Committee, chaired by Watcharin Panurat, ruled that:
- Samut Prakan City forfeits the match with a 0-3 loss.
- The club is fined 33,333 THB.
Suspension of Matches
As the club has not provided a clear management plan for the remainder of the season, the Thai League Company announced the suspension of all Samut Prakan City’s fixtures starting January 7, 2025. This includes the match against Chonburi FC on January 12, which will not proceed. The suspension impacts the league structure, with Thai League 2 now set to relegate only two teams this season.
Next Steps
Nualphan Lamsam, President of the Football Association of Thailand and CEO of Thai League Co., Ltd., has directed competition organizers to urgently coordinate with Samut Prakan City’s management to clarify the club’s plans for the second half of the season. The objective is to determine the club’s future participation and minimize disruptions to the league and other teams.
