On December 31, the Royal Gazette announced the Ministry of Labor’s revised regulation on child allowance benefits, increasing payments from THB 800 to THB 1,000 per child per month. The new rate will take effect on January 1, 2025, aiming to alleviate financial burdens for insured individuals under the social security system.

The regulation, published in Volume 141, Section 83 G of the Royal Gazette on December 27, 2024, was signed by Labor Minister Pipat Ratchakitprakarn. It draws authority from Sections 7 and 75 of the Social Security Act B.E. 2533 (1990). Key provisions include:

  1. The regulation applies starting January 1, 2025.
  2. Previous child allowance rates are repealed and replaced with a flat rate of THB 1,000 per month per child.

Eligibility Criteria for Child Allowance Benefits

To qualify for the increased child allowance, applicants must:

  • Be insured under Section 33 or Section 39 of the Social Security Act.
  • Have contributed to the social security fund for at least 12 months within the 36 months prior to the benefit eligibility month.
  • Claim for biological children only (adopted children are not covered).
  • Ensure the child is legally recognized, aged from birth to six years old, and limited to three children per family.
  • Choose one parent (either father or mother) to claim the allowance.

This initiative is expected to provide meaningful financial support to families, aligning with the government’s broader efforts to enhance social welfare for citizens.
