Today (May 24, 2025), reporters reported that on May 21, Mr. Pipat Ratchakitprakarn, Minister of Labour, approved the appointment of a new 16-member Medical Committee. This committee comprises a chairperson and members who are experts in medical science, health economics, hospital quality development, and representatives from various sectors such as military hospitals, public health hospitals, the Ministry of Public Health, medical institutions, one employer representative, and one insured person representative. A representative from the Social Security Office will serve as secretary, under Section 14 of the Social Security Act B.E. 2533 (1990), as amended by the Social Security Act (No. 4) B.E. 2558 (2015), and the Ministry of Labour's 2018 regulations on committee selection. This committee will serve a 2-year term from May 21, 2025, to May 20, 2027.

The new committee will operate under Section 15 of the Social Security Act B.E. 2533, with the following responsibilities:

  1. Provide recommendations to the board regarding the provision of medical services.
  2. Set criteria and rates for medical service benefits under Sections 59, 63, 66, 68, 70, and 72.
  3. Advise on issuing ministerial regulations under Section 64.
  4. Offer medical consultations to the board, appeals committee, and the office.
  5. Perform other duties as authorized under the Act or as assigned by the Minister or the board.

The Social Security Office, through this new committee, aims to enhance medical benefit rights, raise medical standards, and improve healthcare services to align with current needs—ensuring that all insured persons receive quality, effective, and equitable medical services throughout their lives.
