The Social Security Office (SSO) has introduced a new policy called "SSO Cancer Anywhere," allowing insured individuals under Sections 33 and 39 of the Social Security Act to seek cancer treatment at any hospital, public or private, that has an agreement with the SSO. This initiative, approved during the Social Security Board’s meeting on December 11, aims to enhance accessibility and ensure patients can receive treatment at hospitals with sufficient capacity and expertise. Scheduled to take effect on January 1, 2025, the policy represents a major step forward in improving healthcare for cancer patients by removing restrictions that previously limited them to designated social security hospitals and capped annual reimbursements at 50,000 THB.

According to Mr. Boonsong Thapchaiyut, Chair of the Social Security Board, this policy will provide comprehensive coverage for the full course of cancer treatment, streamlining access to quality care for all insured individuals. To support the rollout, the SSO is developing a digital platform that will track treatment progress, facilitate the exchange of medical information, and list all participating hospitals. This system aims to improve communication between facilities and ensure services are delivered in compliance with medical standards. By prioritizing patient convenience and equitable healthcare access, this initiative marks a significant milestone for Thailand’s social security system.
