The National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC), led by Secretary-General Saroj Pungrumpan, announced on December 16, 2024, that it is advancing investigations into two major cases involving allegations against high-ranking police officers.

Key Case 1: Allegations Against Former National Police Chief

The NACC resolved to formally investigate Pol. Gen. Torsak Sukwimol, the former National Police Chief, and seven associates for allegedly soliciting bribes and assets linked to illegal online gambling operations and other illicit businesses across 18 categories.

The commission reviewed preliminary findings and concluded there is sufficient evidence to proceed with a full investigation under the 2018 Anti-Corruption Act. The investigation will be conducted by the entire NACC panel. If additional individuals are found to be involved during the inquiry, they will also face scrutiny.

Key Case 2: Allegations Against Former Deputy National Police Chief

The NACC also addressed accusations against Pol. Gen. Surachate Hakparn, former Deputy National Police Chief, and associates. They are alleged to have solicited benefits from online gambling platforms, conspired to commit money laundering, and unlawfully accepted assets exceeding the legal threshold of 3,000 baht.

While the commission found preliminary evidence, it has directed investigators to gather more information before presenting the findings for further consideration.
