Heavy rainfall in Koh Phangan, Surat Thani, since December 12, 2024, led to a landslide on December 14, causing a large boulder to crash onto a high-voltage power pole. The incident occurred on the Ban Tai–Thong Nai Pan road near the deer statue roundabout in Ban Tai subdistrict, blocking the road and resulting in a widespread power outage.
In response, Ban Tai Mayor Trirong Jaikwang collaborated with the Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) and mobilized teams with heavy machinery to clear the road and restore electricity under continuous rain. The landslide was attributed to oversaturated soil and weakened ground conditions. Officials expect power in Thong Nai Pan to be restored by December 15.
Despite the disruption, the Haad Rin Entrepreneurs’ Association confirmed that the Full Moon Party at Haad Rin beach would proceed on December 15 as planned.
