At 3:20 PM on June 24, at the Bhumjaithai Party headquarters, party leader Anutin Charnvirakul addressed the government's plan to reclassify cannabis as a narcotic, limiting its use to medical purposes. He reminded the public that Bhumjaithai had already drafted cannabis legislation in the past—identical to what the current government is proposing, possibly even more detailed. However, that bill was rejected by former coalition parties. Therefore, the accusation that Bhumjaithai abandoned its cannabis policy is untrue. "We tried to implement good policy at the time, but it wasn't supported by our coalition partners," Anutin said. He added that if Pheu Thai or even the Prime Minister wants to introduce new legislation in Parliament now, it's their right and doesn't concern Bhumjaithai. He emphasized that the medical cannabis policy remains aligned with Bhumjaithai’s original intent.
When asked whether being in opposition would affect the party’s vote on the 2026 annual budget bill, Anutin responded that the party will fulfill its role as opposition and act accordingly.
Asked if Bhumjaithai would vote down the budget bill, he said the matter is still under committee review.
Regarding the draft bill on integrated entertainment complexes, including casinos, Anutin clarified that as an opposition party now, Bhumjaithai is free to make its own decisions. “Everyone already knows—we don’t support casinos. Back when we were part of the government, we had to listen and consider others’ views. Now we can decide independently,” he stated.
