On December 15, authorities in Nakhon Si Thammarat Municipality issued a flood warning after continuous heavy rainfall caused water levels in local canals to rise significantly. Red flags and warning signs have been placed on all bridges crossing canals to alert residents.
Mayor Dr. Kanap Ketchart, accompanied by municipal council members, inspected critical areas, including the economic hub around Khu Khwang intersection. Blockages from accumulated waste at drainage pipe inlets have hindered the performance of 12-inch water pumps. In response, the mayor ordered immediate waste removal and deployed additional pumps across key canals and alleys to alleviate flooding.
Dr. Kanap noted that the flood situation could improve if tidal surges do not worsen the drainage. Residents are encouraged to monitor real-time updates via the municipality's Line account (@nakhoncity) and to relocate valuables to higher ground, particularly those living near canals or in low-lying areas.
The municipality has assured the public of its commitment to addressing the issue promptly. For emergency assistance, residents can contact the local disaster prevention office.
Meanwhile, reports indicate flooding has already spilled over sidewalks in Pho Sadet Subdistrict, particularly near the Tao Mor intersection.
