On December 9, 2024, the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) conducted the group draw for the 2027 AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers at AFC House in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Thailand was drawn into Group D alongside Turkmenistan, Taiwan, and Sri Lanka, a grouping considered favorable for the team.

The seeding was determined based on FIFA rankings from November 2024. Despite not advancing to the third round of the 2026 FIFA World Cup Asian Qualifiers, Thailand, ranked 97th globally, secured a Pot 1 position for the Asian Cup Qualifiers. This placed them in Group D with lower-ranked teams, increasing their chances of progression.

The groupings are as follows:

  • Group A: Tajikistan, Philippines, Maldives, Timor-Leste
  • Group B: Lebanon, Yemen, Bhutan, Brunei
  • Group C: India, Hong Kong, Singapore, Bangladesh
  • Group D: Thailand, Turkmenistan, Taiwan, Sri Lanka
  • Group E: Syria, Afghanistan, Myanmar, Pakistan
  • Group F: Vietnam, Malaysia, Nepal, Laos

The qualifiers begin on March 25, 2025, with the six group winners joining 18 teams that progressed from the 2026 FIFA World Cup Asian Qualifiers third round. These 24 teams will compete in the 2027 AFC Asian Cup final tournament, hosted by Saudi Arabia from January 15 to February 8, 2027.
