On December 4, at the Thai Parliament, Ms. Nantana Nantavaropas, a senator from the "New Breed" group, stated their position on the draft Referendum Act. The group supports a single-majority rule for constitutional referendums, opposing the two-tier majority system proposed by the joint committee reviewing the bill. According to Ms. Nantana, a single-majority system ensures accessibility, aligns with public sentiment, and respects the people's will, making it comparable to voting in general elections. She added that the process should be expedited to align with the 2027 general election timeline.

Mr. Pornchai Witayalertphan, another senator from the same group, argued that the two-tier majority system could distort referendum outcomes, as seen internationally. He highlighted how opponents of referendums often encourage low voter turnout, undermining the democratic process. Given the global shift away from such systems, he emphasized that Thailand should adopt the simpler single-majority rule to reflect the people's true intent.
