Mr. Phassakorn Boonyalak, Director-General of the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM), reported that a new cold air mass from China has caused heavy to extreme rainfall in southern Thailand, leading to flash floods and runoff in 10 provinces between November 22 and December 4. Affected provinces include Chumphon, Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, Trang, Satun, Songkhla, Pattani, Yala, and Narathiwat. The disaster has impacted 87 districts, 538 sub-districts, and 3,729 villages, with 664,173 households affected and 29 reported fatalities.
The DDPM has mobilized emergency response teams and equipment, such as water pumps, long-range water suction trucks, emergency transport vehicles, potable water production units, disaster relief boats, and KA-32 helicopters. The "Guardian Team" has been deployed to provide direct assistance. Provincial offices have been instructed to collaborate with local governments and related agencies to expedite relief efforts, assess damages, and provide assistance in compliance with relevant regulations.
