At 10:00 a.m. on June 15 at the Pheu Thai Party (PTP) headquarters, Mr. Payu Nueangchamnong, Deputy Spokesperson of the party, addressed the state of Thai-Cambodian relations. He emphasized that the Joint Boundary Commission (JBC) remains the chosen mechanism for peaceful negotiation, founded on mutual respect for sovereignty. Although the recent meeting did not yield a permanent resolution, it marked a positive sign that both sides prefer dialogue over violence.

Mr. Payu continued, calling for continued support of the JBC meetings as the safest way to resolve border issues. He expressed hope that this approach would help restore relations between the two countries to the stable state seen in 2024. He also noted that the Thai government has been preparing across all sectors to prevent any impact on energy security and the economy, highlighting careful governance.

“We affirm that the Pheu Thai Party supports the government's firm stance against provocation and is committed to peaceful conflict resolution through bilateral negotiations. We also stress that we do not accept the use of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) to resolve Thailand’s border issues. It must be reiterated that international judicial processes cannot proceed without Thailand’s consent,” said Mr. Payu.

He added that Cambodia’s submission to the ICJ reflects a consistent position, but noted that the Pheu Thai Party and the Prime Minister have yet to discuss the matter in detail. He suggested that the Prime Minister will provide a further statement on this issue.
