At 6:30 PM on June 8, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Phumtham Wechayachai stated that reports from negotiations at all levels confirm that Thai and Cambodian forces are now jointly inspecting the border area. Both sides are working to reduce tensions and avoid confrontation, which has led to a significantly improved situation.
"On behalf of the Ministry of Defense and the Royal Thai Armed Forces, I would like to thank the Cambodian government, especially the frontline troops of the Cambodian army, for their cooperative negotiations and efforts to peacefully resolve the situation for the benefit of citizens on both sides," said Mr. Phumtham.
Currently, both armies have jointly surveyed the area and the trench, which has now been filled in as agreed. Troops have been repositioned to the locations they occupied during normal circumstances in 2024.
"We both hope that the Joint Boundary Commission (JBC) meeting scheduled for June 14, 2025, will bring about a peaceful resolution to the issues between our two countries," the Minister of Defense added.
The Ministry of Defense also expressed gratitude to Thai troops, the 2nd Army Region Commander, and the Royal Thai Army for their patience and commitment to peace.
Finally, the public is urged to be cautious in sharing information to avoid reigniting conflicts.
