On January 8, Prosecutor General's Office spokesperson Mr. Sakkasem Nitriyok clarified the decision to drop charges against two celebrity ambassadors of The Icon Group—Mr. Yuranan Pamornmontri (Boss Sam) and Ms. Pichaya Wattanamontri (Boss Min)—while proceeding with charges against Mr. Kan Kantathavorn (Boss Kan).
The dropped charges against Boss Sam and Boss Min stem from insufficient evidence linking them to fraudulent activities under Thailand’s pyramid scheme laws. Investigations revealed both were contracted as presenters for The Icon Group after the company’s establishment (Boss Sam in October 2023 and Boss Min in April 2023), with no evidence suggesting involvement in illegal operations since its 2021 founding.
In contrast, Boss Kan faces substantial evidence implicating him in the group’s activities from its inception. Charges against him include fraud, computer-related crimes, and unauthorized direct marketing in violation of multiple laws, including the Direct Sales and Direct Marketing Act and the Computer Crime Act.
The case highlights the complexities of distinguishing contractual roles from complicity in alleged illegal activities. Prosecutors are submitting charges against the remaining 17 defendants while ensuring procedural clarity for dropped cases.
