On November 25, police from Region 5 apprehended Samart Jenchaijitawanich, a former parliamentary candidate for the Palang Pracharath Party, at Mae Yao Police Station in Chiang Rai. Samart faces charges of money laundering and conspiracy to commit money laundering related to the "The Icon Group" case.
Authorities, led by Police Colonel Patsakorn Thawatchiangkul and Police Colonel Ananchak Kanoknopawat, arrested Samart at Wat Huai Pla Kang in Chiang Rai’s Rim Kok subdistrict around noon. Samart had reportedly hired a private van for 7,000 baht per day to transport him from Mae Fah Luang Airport to the temple. He was planning to return to the airport later to surrender to authorities but was arrested beforehand.
The investigation continues as law enforcement gathers further evidence and testimony related to the case.
