On December 26, at the House of Representatives in Thailand, Deputy House Speaker Paradorn Prisananantakul presided over a meeting to discuss public concerns. Opposition leader Nattapong Ruangpanyawut urged the Speaker to direct the parliamentary commission to revise regulations to ensure government accountability. He highlighted repeated failures by the Prime Minister to address live questioning sessions, particularly on electricity price hikes, despite prior notifications.
Nattapong criticized the Prime Minister’s response to inquiries, referencing a December 25 incident where the PM avoided answering by only wishing “Merry Christmas.” He also noted that although the National Energy Policy Committee decided to postpone a related energy project, the PM delegated leadership of the meeting to a minister, further distancing himself from direct accountability.
Nattapong called for rule amendments to set stricter guidelines on how many times the PM can postpone answering live questions, arguing that the constitution grants parliament full authority to enforce such measures. In response, Paradorn clarified that members could initiate a proposal to revise parliamentary rules if they secured sufficient support.
