On December 23, Loei Province experienced cold weather across its 14 districts, with temperatures ranging from 9 to 14°C in lowland areas. The coldest temperatures were recorded at Phu Ruea District (9°C), while mountaintop areas were significantly colder. Key national parks reported the following lows: Phu Kradueng National Park at 9.0°C, Phu Ruea National Park at 7.0°C, Phu Luang Wildlife Sanctuary (Phu Ruea) at 6.0°C, and Phu Suan Sai National Park at 10.0°C.
Adisorn Hemthanont, Head of Phu Kradueng National Park, announced the reopening of camping grounds after temporarily closing due to an elephant incident. Authorities have safely guided the elephant back into the forest, and visitors can now resume overnight stays.
The chilly weather has also triggered a striking seasonal phenomenon at Phu Kradueng. Maple trees, locally known as "Kuam Daeng," have begun shedding their leaves, turning from green to vibrant red. Popular viewing spots include Wang Kwang and Lang Pae, where the red foliage creates stunning contrasts against moss-covered rocks and flowing streams. This annual spectacle is expected to peak during the New Year holiday season, offering visitors a breathtaking natural display perfect for photography and enjoyment.
