On December 21, temperatures in Loei Province dropped significantly, accompanied by dense morning fog across many areas. In Muang Loei District, temperatures recorded 10.5°C, while mountain peaks saw lows ranging from 7°C to 12°C. Popular attractions like Phu Kradueng National Park recorded a chilly 7.5°C, Phu Ruea National Park hit 7°C, and both Phu Luang Wildlife Sanctuary and the Loei Highland Agricultural Research Center reported 8°C.
The cold spell has turned Loei’s national parks into bustling tourist destinations, especially on weekends. Phu Ruea National Park remains a highlight, maintaining single-digit temperatures in the early mornings for seven consecutive days. Visitors flock to enjoy the cold weather, picturesque fog, and breathtaking sunrises over a sea of mist, particularly between 5:30 and 7:00 AM.
Netnapa Ngamnet, the head of Phu Ruea National Park, noted an increase in visitors nationwide. She assured that the park’s stunning views and chilly atmosphere have not disappointed travelers seeking an idyllic year-end escape.
Tips for Visitors
Tourists are advised to bring adequate winter clothing as nighttime and early morning temperatures range between 7°C and 10°C. Additionally, visitors can partake in a special year-end merit-making ceremony on December 31, 2024, and January 1, 2025, at 7:15 AM. The event, featuring nine monks, will take place at the second parking area near Phu Ruea’s summit, offering a serene way to start the New Year.
