On December 18, 2024, the Constitutional Court unanimously dismissed a petition filed by Mr. Sontiyan Sawaidee, who claimed that Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra and leader of the Pheu Thai Party violated constitutional and electoral laws through the implementation of the digital wallet policy. The policy, a key campaign promise during the 2023 general election, was allegedly altered in its criteria and target groups after Pheu Thai formed the government.

The petitioner argued that these changes contradicted constitutional provisions under Articles 257(1) and 258 regarding political governance and breached the Organic Act on the Election of Members of the House of Representatives, 2018, particularly Section 73. However, the Court concluded that the petition primarily contested party policies without showing direct infringement of the petitioner’s rights or freedoms, as required under the Organic Act on Constitutional Court Procedures, Section 46.

As the petition lacked grounds for judicial review under constitutional and procedural laws, the Court unanimously decided not to accept the case for consideration, effectively terminating the complaint.
