On December 14, Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, also leader of the Bhumjaithai Party, addressed comments made by former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra during a Pheu Thai seminar. Thaksin had criticized some coalition partners for allegedly avoiding a Cabinet meeting on December 11 regarding international tax measures. Speaking on Thai PBS, Anutin clarified that the remarks were unlikely directed at him or his party. He explained that on the day in question, he had a pre-scheduled medical appointment and was unaware that the meeting had been rescheduled from Tuesday, its usual day, to Wednesday.

Anutin added that while undergoing his medical checkup, Dr. Prommin Lertsuridej, Secretary-General to the Prime Minister, called to notify him of the meeting’s importance. Following his appointment, Anutin immediately attended the session, during which many of his party’s ministers were also present, apart from those with official obligations. He urged that Bhumjaithai should not be implicated in any criticism.

When asked whether Thaksin’s comments were intended as a signal to Bhumjaithai, Anutin responded that his party takes directives from Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra, the head of the government. He stated, “I don’t pay much attention to Mr. Thaksin’s remarks because I was at the meeting.”

Anutin emphasized that he regularly communicates with the Prime Minister and sees no need for further clarification. He dismissed concerns about strained relations between coalition partners, affirming that the government remains united in its efforts to serve the nation and its people.
