At 10:00 AM on December 8, 2024, police in Chom Thong District, Chiang Mai, responded to a major traffic accident on the descent from Doi Inthanon near the entrance to Wachirathan Waterfall. The crash involved a white Mitsubishi Pajero, a modified white pickup truck, and a white passenger van.

The Mitsubishi Pajero sustained severe damage and came to rest in the middle of the road. The pickup truck flipped over and landed off the left-hand side of the road, while the passenger van ended up in a ditch after colliding with an electric pole and suffering extensive damage.

Eyewitnesses reported that the van was descending at high speed when it first struck the Pajero, causing the SUV to spin and hit a metal roadside barrier. The van then collided with the pickup truck, sending it off the road and into a tree before overturning. The van itself lost control and crashed into a power pole before coming to rest in a roadside ditch.

Six people were seriously injured, including four in the van, as well as the drivers of the Pajero and the pickup truck. Rescue teams transported the injured to Chom Thong Hospital for emergency treatment. Authorities are investigating the exact cause of the accident and will proceed with legal action.
