On November 29, Nattapong Ruangpanyawut, MP and leader of the People’s Party, reported his visit to flood-hit areas in Chana and Hat Yai, Songkhla. He praised the efforts of officials and volunteers working tirelessly to aid affected residents. The ongoing floods have impacted seven southern provinces, spanning 50 districts, 321 subdistricts, and 1,884 villages, affecting at least 136,219 households. Shortages of essential equipment, such as boats and life jackets, as well as safe evacuation routes, remain critical challenges. Many residents are unaware of evacuation points and routes.

Floodwaters continue to rise due to persistent rainfall and tidal surges, with forecasts indicating heavy rain in southern Thailand over the next 2-3 days. Residents in high-risk areas are urged to relocate to designated evacuation centers. Chronic flooding in southern provinces calls for long-term systemic solutions, such as:

  • Improved flood prediction models for accurate warnings.
  • Enhanced evacuation readiness, including accessible centers for vulnerable groups like women, children, and bedridden patients.
  • Efficient water drainage systems during floods.
  • Comprehensive post-flood recovery efforts, addressing livelihood restoration and financial support.

The People’s Party has established coordination centers in Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phang Nga, and Songkhla to provide shelter, support for rescue volunteers, and resources for affected communities. The party continues relief efforts in southern border provinces despite travel disruptions caused by high floodwaters.
