On May 27 at Government House, Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Phichai Chunhavachira addressed the Supreme Administrative Court's decision to revoke the Ministry of Finance’s order requiring former Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra to pay 10.028 billion baht in compensation for losses from the rice pledging scheme. He said he has instructed the legal team to thoroughly review the facts before proceeding.

When asked whether a new committee would be formed to recalculate the damages, Phichai stated that he would need to examine the court’s order in detail first, including the timeframe and legal implications.

Regarding the previously seized assets of Yingluck, Phichai admitted he was not yet fully informed of the details and would need legal consultation. He noted that he only knew from the news that some assets were frozen and others sold.

As for Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Phumtham Wechayachai’s comment that the rice price calculation had changed and thus necessitates a recalculation of damages, Phichai said the matter needs a closer look.

When asked if a subcommittee might be needed to oversee the case, Phichai reiterated his need to first consult with legal advisors.

Deputy Finance Minister Paopoom Rojanasakul added that the process of establishing a new compensation assessment committee is ongoing and no official action has been taken yet.
