On May 18, reporters announced that Thailand's Election Commission (EC) Investigation Committee No. 26, led by Deputy Secretary-General Lt. Col. Chanin Noylerk, has issued summons to 55 senators to acknowledge allegations of suspected violations of the 2018 Constitutional Act on Senate Membership Acquisition. The violations concern sections 70, 36, 77(1), and 62 of the act. The hearings are scheduled from May 19-21 at the EC office in Government Complex, Chaeng Watthana.
This process represents the first stage of investigation under the Election Commission's 2018 regulations on investigation and adjudication procedures. The senators are divided into three groups: 22 senators on May 19 (including Senate President Mongkol Surasajja and First Vice President General Kriangkrai Srirak), 22 senators on May 20 (including Lt. Col. Chatrawat Saengphet and Somphan Phalasak), and 11 senators on May 21 (including Chokchai Kittithanesuan).
All summoned senators have confirmed their attendance and prepared documentation to defend their cases. Senate President Mongkol Surasajja is scheduled to appear at 1:30 PM on May 19, while First Vice President General Kriangkrai Srirak will appear at 8:30 AM the same day.
