At 1:00 PM on December 24, at Government House, Jirayu Huangsap, spokesperson for the Office of the Prime Minister, announced that the Thai Cabinet (Cabinet) had acknowledged the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ proposal to formally accept an invitation to join the BRICS Partner Country framework. This decision aligns with the resolution of the 16th BRICS Summit, held on October 23, 2024, in Kazan, Russia. Thailand's acceptance will be conveyed to Russia before the end of 2024, coinciding with Russia's term as BRICS chair.
BRICS, a coalition of rapidly developing economies, consists of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, recently expanded to include five new members: Egypt, the UAE, Ethiopia, Saudi Arabia, and Iran. Additionally, three nations—Thailand, Algeria, and Bolivia—have expressed interest in joining the partnership.
