On December 17, 2024, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs officially launched the Thai E-Visa system, a fully online platform enabling foreign travelers to apply for visas easily, securely, and efficiently before visiting Thailand. The system, set to launch globally on January 1, 2025, will be available at all 94 Thai embassies and consulates worldwide.
Mr. Worawut Pongprapaphan, Director-General of the Department of Consular Affairs, emphasized that the system, developed over a decade, adheres to the "3 A" principles—Apply Anywhere, Anytime—allowing applications 24/7 from any location. Travelers can submit their visa applications through the website www.thaievisa.go.th, connect with relevant agencies like Immigration and Intelligence offices in real time, and pay fees online in collaboration with Kasikorn Bank. However, in certain countries, travelers may still need to provide payment proof at embassies, a process expected to transition fully online within six months.
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Maris Sengyampong, highlighted the E-Visa system’s role in boosting Thailand’s global competitiveness, attracting tourists, businesspeople, investors, and students by simplifying visa processes and reducing bureaucratic barriers. The system employs advanced technology for real-time data integration and identity verification, ensuring security and efficiency.
Currently, nationals from 93 countries are exempt from visas for up to 60-day stays for tourism purposes. However, travelers requiring other types of visas, such as student or work visas, can apply via the E-Visa platform. Once approved, travelers will receive their E-Visa via email to present at airport check-in counters, streamlining the identification process.
