At 4:00 PM on December 6, a fire broke out at the Ban Thap Ma Childcare Center, Moo 4, Mueang District, Rayong. Lt. Col. Kaweewut Bunruang from the Rayong City Police Station responded to the emergency alongside fire trucks from Thap Ma Municipality and rescue teams from Sawang Pornkusol Foundation.
Incident and Evacuation
Upon arrival, firefighters encountered smoke and flames emanating from a classroom. After approximately 30 minutes, the fire was extinguished. Fortunately, there were no casualties or injuries. However, significant damage was sustained, including the destruction of classroom furniture, learning materials, and textbooks.
Around 100 children, aged 1-3 years, were safely evacuated by their teachers. Many children remained shaken by the incident, but parents were able to collect them soon after.
Cause of the Fire
According to Natthirat Cherdchu, the 46-year-old director of the childcare center, the fire began shortly before dismissal time. She reported hearing a loud explosion, followed by a power outage. Flames and smoke quickly emerged from an electrical outlet. Teachers promptly evacuated the children and contacted authorities.
Police initially suspect an electrical short circuit as the cause of the fire. Further investigation by forensic specialists from Rayong is underway to confirm the cause and assess the total damage.
