On November 11, Thanu Wongchinda, Secretary-General of Thailand's Basic Education Commission (OBEC), reported a widespread illness affecting over 1,000 students from two schools in Klaeng District, Rayong Province. Students exhibited symptoms of food poisoning, such as stomach pain and vomiting. OBEC has coordinated with the local health and education offices to investigate possible causes, including water, food, and environmental factors.

Initial inquiries suggest that contaminated water or ice, possibly used during a recent school sports event, could be the cause. The region’s industrial environment raises concerns about environmental contamination, which may have contributed to the illness. In response, OBEC is working closely with Rayong’s public health authorities and environmental agencies to conduct thorough testing, aiming to establish preventive measures for schools near industrial areas. Findings from this investigation are expected within the week.
