The Thai Cabinet, led by spokesperson Jirayu Huangsub, approved the construction of the Bang Khun Thian–Bang Bua Thong expressway extension (M9 Motorway) at its December 3 meeting. The project, proposed by the Ministry of Transport, will span 35.85 kilometers and is estimated to cost 47.52 billion baht ($1.3 billion). Construction is set to begin in 2024 and will continue through 2027. The expressway aims to alleviate traffic congestion on Bangkok’s outer ring road and improve connectivity to and from the capital.

Key features of the project include the expropriation of 32.5 rai (approximately 5.2 hectares) of land, a six-lane design, eight entry points, and six exits. The investment will be managed through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) with a 30-year concession period. Toll fees will start at 10 baht, increasing by 1.5 baht per kilometer.
