Don Mueang International Airport (IATA: DMK), located on Vibhavadi Rangsit Road in northern Bangkok, is one of the oldest airports in the world and the oldest still in operation in Asia. First opened on March 27, 1914, it has played a pivotal role in Southeast Asian aviation, connecting domestic and international flights across Asia, Europe, the Americas, and Australia.
After Suvarnabhumi Airport opened in 2006, Don Mueang temporarily ceased passenger operations, focusing on aircraft maintenance, pilot training, and private flights. However, in March 2007, it resumed scheduled domestic flights due to congestion at Suvarnabhumi. By October 1, 2012, Don Mueang was reinstated as Bangkok’s second international airport under government policies to ease Suvarnabhumi's overcrowding.
Today, Don Mueang serves flights to countries including Cambodia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Vietnam, Taiwan, Indonesia, India, the Philippines, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Australia. Its historical significance and role in global connectivity make it a vital hub in regional and international aviation.
