Thailand’s Energy Policy and Planning Office reported a 2.5% reduction in carbon dioxide emissions from energy use during the first half of 2024, compared to the same period in 2023. Total emissions reached 121.9 million tons of CO₂ from January to June. Notable reductions occurred across sectors, with transportation emissions down 16.8%, industrial emissions reduced by 12%, and other economic sectors, including agriculture and commerce, decreasing by 1.5%. However, emissions from electricity production increased by 5.8%.
The report also detailed CO₂ emissions by fuel type, all of which showed reductions:
- Refined Oil: Emissions at 9 million tons, down 1.1%
- Natural Gas: Emissions at 40 million tons, down 3%
- Coal/Lignite: Emissions at 9 million tons, down 7.9%
Thailand’s commitment to renewable and clean energy has led to emissions below the global average, aligning with national goals to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
