On June 17, it was reported that Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra, also a key figure of the Pheu Thai Party, has officially decided to proceed with a Cabinet reshuffle, seeking to reclaim the Ministry of Interior from the Bhumjaithai Party.
At 3:00 p.m. on June 17, she formally notified Bhumjaithai Party leader Anutin Charnvirakul of the reshuffle plan. Pheu Thai proposed that Bhumjaithai switch to overseeing the Ministry of Public Health and receive an additional ministerial position within the Office of the Prime Minister. Anutin was given 48 hours to decide, with a deadline set for 3:00 p.m. on June 19.
Sources indicate that if Bhumjaithai refuses the condition and insists on keeping the Interior Ministry, the Prime Minister is prepared to proceed with the Cabinet reshuffle without Bhumjaithai as part of the coalition. Even without Bhumjaithai’s 71 seats, the remaining government coalition is expected to maintain over 260 MPs—still a majority in the current 495-member House. It is also anticipated that some opposition MPs may soon declare their formal support for the government.
In addition, despite internal conflict within the United Thai Nation Party, the party confirmed it will continue to support the Pheu Thai-led government.
