At around 3:40 PM on June 14, Nikoradet Plangkur, Director-General of the Department of Information and spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, provided an update on the 6th Thailand-Cambodia Joint Boundary Commission (JBC) meeting taking place in Phnom Penh.

He stated that the session began in the morning with a preliminary meeting between the two co-chairs, followed by full committee discussions focused on technical topics such as the application of topographic survey technology. The talks were continuing into the afternoon, in line with the planned agenda, and are expected to extend into the following day.

Nikoradet emphasized the positive and constructive atmosphere, saying both parties are engaging in open and sincere dialogue. He expressed hope that the meeting will help ease current tensions and contribute to a sustainable resolution.

Addressing widespread inquiries about the International Court of Justice (ICJ), he reaffirmed that Thailand does not recognize the ICJ’s jurisdiction over this matter, consistent with statements made by the Prime Minister and the Foreign Minister. He underscored Thailand's commitment to resolving the issue through bilateral mechanisms, such as the JBC and diplomatic channels, which he deemed effective and appropriate under international law and UN standards.

He highlighted the JBC’s past successes, such as the construction of the Thai-Cambodian Friendship Bridge between Ban Nong Ian and Stung Bot, as evidence of fruitful bilateral cooperation.

When asked whether the meeting included discussion of the four disputed areas or Cambodia's alleged breach of the 2000 MOU at the Chong Bok checkpoint, Nikoradet said those talks were ongoing and details were not yet available for disclosure.

Regarding rumors of a leaked message suggesting Thailand’s acceptance of certain maps, Nikoradet stated he had only heard the reports but could not confirm any facts. He assured that further verified information would be shared when available.
