On June 14, the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that Ambassador Prasas Prasatwinitchai, Chairman of the Thai-Cambodian Joint Boundary Commission (JBC) for Thailand, co-chaired the 6th JBC meeting with H.E. Lam Chea, Minister in charge of Border Affairs and Secretary-General of Cambodia’s National Authority for Border Affairs.
Both sides reaffirmed the importance of utilizing the JBC mechanism to peacefully negotiate and resolve border issues. They committed to working within the framework of the 2000 Memorandum of Understanding (MOU 43) between the Royal Governments of Thailand and Cambodia concerning land boundary survey and demarcation. This effort aims to reduce existing tensions and facilitate progress on unresolved border matters.
The commission includes technical representatives from relevant agencies: Thailand’s Department of Treaties and Legal Affairs, Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Defense, Royal Thai Survey Department, Royal Thai Army and Navy, and Cambodia’s equivalent agencies including the Ministry of Defense, various regional military units, and governors from all provinces along the Thai-Cambodian border.
